the new year starts with the welcome news that the cosmologist returns with episode three of the cosmology series. trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70s radical firebrands the last poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, *its a trip*. a loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on may 19.1968 to mark malcolm xs birthday, having all met at east wind, a harlem based writers work shop. they took their name from a revolutionary south african poet keorapetse kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun. continuing that thought, civil rights for african americans was very much the beat of the last poets, a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

fast hätte es an dieser stelle keinen neuen release von ki records zu verkünden gegeben, denn die beiden jungs hinter colo, nick smith und ben corr, haben mal eben so in der hochphase der albumproduktion ihren laptop verschusselt. backups? fehlanzeige! da war der debütlangspieler schon fast fertig: zehn tracks mit 150 bis 200 audiospuren viele stunden feinsten bastelns und schraubens, einfach weg. zum glück ist nicht die ganze welt schlecht und so manch ein finder ehrlich und das gerät gelangte unbeschädigt in die hände der besitzer zurück und das erstlingsalbum *ur* doch noch in die pressung und in den katalog von ki. der name des albums ist ein wortspiel und verweist nicht etwa auf undergroud resistance, sondern auf das englisch wort colo-ur.

when the aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009, emerging out of hardwax with little fanfare, they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. the minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with berghain and sandwell district at the vanguard of a new techno movement. what the aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower bpms and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. the influences these italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno.
